Holiday work

The family was up in Ottawa for Thanksgiving and I stopped into a dollar store to twack about.  I found a reusable shopping bag made out of cheap canvas and fell in love with it.  I walked out of the store carrying my new roomy bag.  I sat down later to check out the inner workings of it, created a pattern and set out to recreate.

I found & ordered this neat fabric on Spoonflower (a local company) designed by pennycandy.  The sides and bottom is one piece of thick canvas fabric, the mix tape printed on
Linen-Cotton Canvas.

My first attempt is below, needs some tweaking to the pattern and I may switch the sides and bottom canvas over to a lighter canvas blend.  The thick canvas was not easy to work with, even with an upgraded needle and thread.

Missed birthdays

I am not always the best at keeping up with birthdays with this year being no exception.  I've done my best to make up for it with a card I created for my nephew on Shutterfly.  He is a rising junior at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD.  His birthday was several weeks ago but he has been out and about on assignments, soon to be returning for a short summer school stint.  I hope to have this there by the time he arrives back.

The inside reads as follows:

I couldn't find a hot chick to jump out of the box for you.
Blake was the only volunteer.
Make do, soldier.

Mumford & Sons

The first song I ever heard from Mumford & Sons, The Cave.  In honor of the fact I am seeing them live tonight at the Raleigh Amphitheater,   I am sharing this link.

Puppy Love 2- Blake in a Box

Blake got a package today and thought he'd play in the box.

Wondering what was inside that box?

Kitchen Facelift -Part Three

Just in time for Mother's Day, the hubs installed the new microwave.

8 months and $4500 USD later the appliances are all in.  Where I would have liked having everything done at once I am happy that everything was paid for in full as it was purchased.  I now have a more modern kitchen without being in debt.

Next up for the kitchen is new lighting and new cabinet doors.  Very exciting!

For Mother's Day I stopped at Whole Foods to pick up my favorite flowers, peonies.

And the plates from Artables showed up in the mail.

My moose, inukshuk, and bears.
