Missed birthdays

I am not always the best at keeping up with birthdays with this year being no exception.  I've done my best to make up for it with a card I created for my nephew on Shutterfly.  He is a rising junior at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD.  His birthday was several weeks ago but he has been out and about on assignments, soon to be returning for a short summer school stint.  I hope to have this there by the time he arrives back.

The inside reads as follows:

I couldn't find a hot chick to jump out of the box for you.
Blake was the only volunteer.
Make do, soldier.

Mumford & Sons

The first song I ever heard from Mumford & Sons, The Cave.  In honor of the fact I am seeing them live tonight at the Raleigh Amphitheater,   I am sharing this link.

Puppy Love 2- Blake in a Box

Blake got a package today and thought he'd play in the box.

Wondering what was inside that box?

FROM: The old feeders, mismatched and broken...
TO: New feeder!

Ruby, my front toothless wonder.
Always a happy smile after some good fun outside.

It never hurts getting in some puppy snuggle time.

Kitchen Facelift -Part Three

Just in time for Mother's Day, the hubs installed the new microwave.

8 months and $4500 USD later the appliances are all in.  Where I would have liked having everything done at once I am happy that everything was paid for in full as it was purchased.  I now have a more modern kitchen without being in debt.

Next up for the kitchen is new lighting and new cabinet doors.  Very exciting!

For Mother's Day I stopped at Whole Foods to pick up my favorite flowers, peonies.

And the plates from Artables showed up in the mail.

My moose, inukshuk, and bears.

Raise a glass to summer

Just in time for the long, hot Southern summer, I've become obsessed with knitted wrist warmers and fingerless gloves.

These wrist warmers are dreamy.

These fingerless gloves are to die for.

Last but not least,  knot and kitten bow glovets.

All these charming finds are on Etsy...cheers!

Just Mucking Around

I purchased a new laptop several weeks ago and for the first time ever, I have Photoshop!  I don't really know how to use it very well at all, but I managed to make this shot I took in Peggy's Cove, Nova Scotia look like it was taken ages ago.  (If I could just get rid of the power line)

My original picture, taken July 2010.

I think a new camera and some community classes on photography are in order.

Kitchen Facelift- Part Two

I've been taking my time lately hoping I could finish things up and get a nice staged shot of my latest update to the kitchen.   And after taking time off of work last week I still didn't get around to it.  So for my mother-in-law here is a snapshot of the tile.  I think it looks great.

The Kitchen Facelift- Part One

After many years of griping and complaining about the kitchen we've finally broke down and in the last six months replaced all of our 13 yr old appliances with new ones.  We've moved from white to stainless and all the latest technology.  Yesterday was the delivery of the LAST major piece, a new range.  I managed to keep my mouth shut on the range, well, I hardly ever use it to begin with and when I do we're lucky the house isn't burnt down.  It's not as fancy as I would have liked but it serves the purpose.

We went from this:

To this:

  • Next up- I've purchased the paint, an Almond Creme.
  • 2 more weeks I order the glass tile for the backsplash.
  • New microwave

Where oh where have I been?  On spending hours pouring over tiles to start a kitchen backsplash project.  Basically spending my bonus check that has not yet arrived.  New stove, new backsplash...I want it all.

The tile is to die for.  Subway 3 x 6 glass tiles?!  And funky fun colors that I can't get anyone else in the house to agree on.  After ordering 10 tile samples and passing out post it notes, I asked everyone to narrow the choice down to four.  These two had the most votes...

Lush 3x6 "Reef"

Lush 3x6 "Taupe"

Very neutral guy colors.  Now I have to get creative to make this work.  Planning on before-middle-after photos to be on the blog once I settle on the design and price.
So stay tuned.....
